Blog #2: Character Illustrations

2020 February 14th

Week 2

In this project we are supposed to illustrate characters of our creation in our sketchbook, this is definitely not my strong suit when it comes to drawing but I based my characters on TV shows I saw as a kid such as "Ed, Edd, and Eddy" and "Johnny Bravo." My personal favorite is the picture of the character based on a piece of wood. Most of the motivation for this assignment comes from the fact that I am not really good at drawing realism. I would rather have a simple design with perfect straight cut lines than try to have a realistic drawing/character. When drawing these sketches I started to realize a sort of style that I have when it comes to drawing cartoon like images. I have been drawing with this style since I was in art class in elementary school, I like the big buggy eyes and emphasis on facial structure while the bodies are smaller proportions than normal people. I can tell by all of the comics I have read that I can relate my style to the creators of "South Park" in the way that the heads of the characters are larger in proportion to their bodies... besides Cartman of course.
